Starting off in the first grade, I was a very shy little girl. As a result I was placed into the HOSTS program and basically labeled as a child who needed special guidance. As the years progressed throughout Elementary School I noticed that my grades weren’t as high as the other students. So from that moment on I dedicated myself to schoolwork. I always did my homework and I studied constantly. I soon became a straight “A” student. As a result, I became more confident. I felt like it was something I was good at even though I had to work extremely hard to achieve it. The grades didn’t come naturally so I was very proud of myself for my personal accomplishments. Throughout the years, my friends made fun of me for studying so much. My brother would tease me because I wasn’t naturally smart. I couldn’t get into the PLUS programs at school because my test scores weren’t high enough. While, his on the other hand were. My parents would tell me I didn’t have to work so hard and that they were be proud of me, even if I made a B. Even though I felt discouraged and stupid at times, I think that only motivated me more: to prove myself and to achieve my personal goal. Now, after late nights studying and a lot of hard work, I am ranked number one in my class. I find this a great personal achievement. I still don’t consider myself smart, instead I consider myself hardworking. I’m still not the best test taker and don’t have the best SAT scores but I have the dedication and the work ethic. I believe that commitment and dedication are more important in a person than the intellectuality that they were born with. I believe that I deserve this scholarship because I have spent the last 12 years of my life dedicated to learning and performing well in school. I believe that I deserve this more than the kid with the 1300 SAT score because he/she most likely didn’t have to work too hard for the all A’s they received. It just comes naturally. While, I on the other hand work very hard to achieve the same grade and more often than not an even lower grade. I think that I deserve some credit for all the work I’ve put towards school. I am applying to this scholarship because I truly feel as though I deserve it and I would love some financial support. My family may not be the best financial supporters but I know they support me in college. I feel that I am a very unique person in the fact that I like school and I don’t take college for granted like most teenagers do in the world today. I feel blessed with the fact that I am even going to college and I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider me for this scholarship.

OK, for starters I think you have done a wonderful job and nothing needs to be changed. It shows the real you and is an honest, well written piece. I wish you well and hope you get this scholarship as you have worked hard and deserve it.
Good Luck!
If this is your version of a speech for a scholarship it’s bad it sounds like you’re offending others and seem mad at the world. No one want to hear the sad sobbing story of how you got where you are today. What sell is your attributes, interests, values and skills not the fact your brother made you seem less important. Here I will touch it all up for you. Not knowing how long it should be but this may seem short until you put it on paper. In order to present your strong points in life you need to put important factors. It’s like selling a lemon of a car.
Here goes…
Dear Name of College,
I am anticapting a scholarship with your company in hopes to further my educational goal. I would like to express how my independance with such scholarship will broaden my horizon without the assistance of my parents. I feel my independance was given to me due to my dedication of school work even in the most difficult times of my life. I am a confident, motivated, unique and hardworking person. During my school year I been involved with the Glee Club, Debate Club and the Drill Team. My grade point average is 2.75 which at this time may seem below standards but with my full dedication with school I know I can be a successor in life. As I conclude, I would like to take this time to express that a scholarship with your company would be a blessing in disguise as I would greatly appreciate such honor. As a receipent of your scholarship I know I can succeed with my educational goals.
Thank you,
your name
This is just a short summary considering I don’t know if you were in clubs at school or your grade point average so I placed one sentence with it. You may have to delete the one if you weren’t in any clubs. You may need to put the correct grade point average.
In the first grade I was a very shy little girl. As a result I was placed into the HOSTS program and labeled as a child who needed special guidance. During elementary school I noticed that my grades weren’t as high as other students’ grades. I finally realized that I needed to concentrate on my courses. From then on I always completed my homework and I studied as much as possible. Because of my commitment, I soon became a straight “A” student. As a result, I became more self-confident. I felt school was something I was good at even though I had to work extremely hard. The grades didn’t come naturally so I was very proud of myself for my accomplishments. Throughout the years, my friends made fun of me for studying so much. My brother would tease me because I wasn’t inherently smart. He chided me for not being accepted into the PLUS programs at school because my test scores weren’t high enough. On the other hand, my parents would tell me I didn’t have to work so hard and that they would be proud of me even if I made a “B.” Though I felt discouraged and stupid at times, any grade less than an “A” motivated me more: to prove myself and to achieve my goals.
Now, after studying many late nights and much hard work, I am ranked number one in my class. I consider this a great personal achievement as I don’t consider myself naturally intelligent. Rather, I consider myself a tenacious worker. I still could improve taking tests and don’t have the best SAT scores, but I am dedicated and have a strong work ethic. I believe that commitment and dedication are more important in a person than the natural intelligence with which they are born. I believe that I deserve this scholarship because I have spent the last 12 years of my life committed to learning and to performing well in school. I am applying for this scholarship because I believe I deserve it and I would welcome financial support. My family will support me as much as they are financially able but to achieve my educational goals I need additional financial resources. I feel blessed and motivated that I am going to college and won’t let you down if you grant me this scholarship.
GOOD LUCK, I HOPE YOU GET IT!
